One Year Later

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Wow it’s been over a year since I updated last.  (at least on this blog)

Like most everyone else, I resolved to get back on track and lose some of the weight that I gained back (thankfully not all of the weight I lost last year) when I stopped following the program.

I lost my job due to downsizing in February and that was the trigger I took to stop eating right and go crazy.  I was never able to rebound, even after finding a new job, blaming it on the stress of the new job and the distance from home for lunches.

I started over at week one at the beginning of this week (Jan 7th). It’s been a struggle but well worth it.

I just re-read all of my 20/20 blogs and that really helped to put everything into perspective as well.  I didn’t remember how much I had actually cheated on this program and still saw pretty consistent results.   My new goal is to lose 70 lbs by July  I know this is going to be a really tough goal but hopefully with a lot of hard work and a LOT of support I can do this and never look back.

15-week fitness assessment

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

This morning I had my 15-week fitness assessment. It involves walking on a treadmill until you reach a target heart rate, taking measurements, blood pressure, body fat percentage and strength and flexibility tests.  Yesterday I had blood drawn for my cholesterol tests and next week Tuesday I see the Dr. to go over all the results.

One of the results I already know about is my treadmill test.  The first time it took my just over 7 minutes to reach my target heart rate. This morning it took me almost 11!  That’s a 150% improvement over my initial results.  That was really awesome to know that all the cardio I have been doing is making a difference.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the results next week.

My New Trainer, Sam

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

I had my first workout with my new trainer on Monday and Holy cow was it intense.

We did 15 min on the stairclimber and then off to the weight room for some real torture.

It was a bunch of simple exercises but really intense with the reps and weights.

At the end of the workout I could barely stand and my whole body was shaking.

It was a great start to my phase 2.

Jingle Bell Run

We did the JBR this weekend and by some miracle we actually found Jennifer in the massive crowd somehow.  Had I known how hilly it was going to be, I might have thought twice about the whole thing, so it’s probably a good thing I didn’t.

It was a beautiful day and it was great to have Ace and Jen there with me.  It went by so quickly just talking and having ppl there to support you.   The pics should be up soon, I will post them as soon as they are available

Week 14 Recap.

Monday, December 4th, 2006

Vegas was quite a struggle to stay on program.  I did great at breakfast but by the time we ate supper my judgement was out the window and I was ordering food likehamburgers, and pasta.  One night I had a pc of cheesecake for dessert.

I was upset to find out that it cost like $30 to use the gym in the hotel.  They really do rape you anyway they can. If they aren’t taking your money at the slot machines, they take it on the eliptical machine.

Somehow I was able to lose 3 lbs this week even without the workingout and the bad food choices.  I was really really beating myself up all weekend convinced I had gained weight.  When I weighed in today I was soooo happy to see a loss on the scale.   If I lose 1.2 more pounds this week I will have met my 45 lb goal for the first 15 weeks.

Week 13 Recap

Monday, November 27th, 2006

Week 13 was my first time dealing with a major holiday and all that delicious foods that go with it. We cooked a turkey and had all the fixings.  I was able to have my lefse and mashed potatoes. As we were eating dinner I looked at Ace and said “Man, corn was the food I really missed.”  The corn was sooo good and I knew if I wanted to, I could easily eat the whole bowl.   Due to the holiday meal, and making the rest of the weekend an extended holiday, I gained 0.4 lbs.  This was my first week since the program that I had gained or not lost any weight.  I wasn’t surprised about the gain but it still kinda upset me to see a gain on my program.

Next week I am off to Vegas for a mini 3 day vacation.

Week 12 Recap

Monday, November 20th, 2006

This week I actually DID track my food but I am finally in a phase of the program that I am experimenting with more and more foods. I managed to lose 4.4 lbs this week so I will definetely take it.

This week I had my first alcoholic drink since September. It was a great drink and didn’t turn me into a crazy hunger monster.  On Sunday, I had a pc of Carrot cake.  yummo!

But I think Saturday afternoon was the best meal I have had in a long time. It was one of those meals that as you are eating it you just get happy and your whole body starts to tingle with every bite.    Ace and I went to a Vegan restaurant in Redmond that was amazing.  Both of us started to eat our food and both of us were speechless with the quality and taste.   We were persuaded to order the “cheesecake.” As soon as the waiter said “No eggs, no milk or dairy, no butter at all” I was really intrigued.  Holy cow, best cheesecake ever.  The consistency was spot on and the taste was incredible.   The whole time we were eating it, we were both just smiling with glee and so happy that this cake was made out of protein and it was good for us. Also, it didn’t have the regular “tired’ effect that most desserts would. We were both wired from the sugar and the protein.  I highly highly recommend it.

Week 11 Recap.

Monday, November 13th, 2006

I didn’t track at all during the week.  I was still able to lose 1 lb.  Not my best but it could have been worse. I didn’t cheat too much this week but I know during the weekend I was just munching all day without a care to how many calories.

This week with the nutritionist we talked about the “Holiday Plate Model”. It’s basically a strategy on how to stay in balance while eating carbs during Thanksgiving and other large meal days.  We are big turkey people so that will help. :)

I had pizza last night!!!

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

Pizza has been my “talk about way too much” food since my 20/20 program has started.

I saw a recipe on The Biggest Loser a couple weeks ago and I thought I would try it.

It’s basically a Whole Wheat Tortilla, Pizza Sauce, Cheese and Toppings.  I was out of Black Olives so I went for a Mushroom Pizza and it was heaven on a plate.

I baked it in the oven for about 10 minutes and the cheese was nice and browned and the tortilla was crispy on the edges.  The only thing I might try next time is to brush the tortilla with a little bit of olive oil and pre-bake it before I put on the topppings.

My mouth is watering just thinking about it. :D

Week 10 Recap

Monday, November 6th, 2006

Another half ass week of keeping track of my calories and protien and it showed on the scale.  I am down 2 for the week.

I should be happy with 2 considering how much I cheated this week. I was in a funk for the week and started to rebel a bit with my foods.  Halloween Candy, Cake, pretzels, etc.

I took Friday off from work and I was hoping to get a lot done around the house but I just sat on the couch all day. My Friday workout was brutal because of my food choices that day.  I know what I should be doing but sometimes I just can’t do it.

I’m shooting for a 4 lb weight loss next week. That will keep me on track for my 45 lbs in 15 weeks.

I am able to have cooked grains now so I can actually have pasta and Oatmeal again.  It’s nice to be able to eat just about anything I want now.
